Abner Bassett was born in Hartland New York in 1823. He married Mandy Edwards in 1847 and they had 3 children. In the mid-1850s he moved his family to the Gold Fields of Nevada setting up a General Store in Virginia City NV in early 1861.

He died of throat cancer on Sept. 22nd 1870 at age 47 and was buried in the Masonic Section of the Virginia City NV Cemetery. His wife sold the store in 1872 and moved the family to San Fransico CA.
